Mayor's Column Its Show Time! The 124th Oberon Agricultural Show is on this Saturday. 10 February, from 9.00am at the Oberon Showgrounds. The Championship Yard Dogs are a big attraction and the high jump dogs will also be in action. The very popular Quick Shear competition will draw lots of people and wrestling will return to the Show after a few years away. And no Show is complete unless there is woodchopping and chainsaw racing. Any Ag Show also has a focus on local produce and handcraft, poultry and birds, wool, cookery, jams and preserves as well as art and photography and there will be plenty to see this year. Tickets are available through 123tix or available at the gate. I look forward to seeing you at the Show! It is pretty clear that substantial earth works have commenced on the site of our new Community Sporting Complex at the O'Connell Road entrance to town. Next week, on 13 February at 1.00pm, there is a formal commencement of works event on the new site off Albion Street. The event will recognise all those individuals and organisations who have contributed time and skills to making this generational project happen. Everyone is invited to attend. Access to the site is off Albion Street opposite Highland Pine and parking will be available on site. The upgrade to Lowes Mount Road is almost complete. The last section to be completed will be the section at Borg's Gate 6. This section of Lowes Mount Road is the section which is subject to the heaviest vehicle traffic, and it should be upgraded, weather permitting, late this month or early March. The completion of this section will mark the end of a three-year project to upgrade the road from Mumton Fails to Oberon. The Grant that funded this project also provided money to Lithgow Council which was used to upgrade the road from Mutton Falls to Tarana. Money was also provided to Upper Lachlan Shine (other side of the Abercrombie River) for works on the road south of the Abercrombie River Work commenced this week to lay a slab for a shelter, picnic table and water tank at the Oberon Dog Park on Jenolan Street near the dam. The work will also include wastebins and bag dispensers. The park is already very popular but soon it will have all the intended amenities and will be a great place for recreation for dogs and their owners.
