Mayor's Column Stromio Energy held two community consultation periods at the Black Springs Community Hall last week for the proposed Pines Windfarm This was the first community engagement activity providing the opportunity for the general public to attend. Previously the engagement was limited to near neighbours of the proposed development. At the moment this project is in the early part of the investigation phase which will determine if the project is viable contiguration and size of the proposed windfarm There were about 60-70 people attended over the two sessions. Some people were quite passionate but also respectful. A number of residents were disappointed that no information was yet available regarding the size and potential number of towers. It is important that as many residents as possible attend these sessions so that we are all as well informed as possible of the potential risks, benefits that are associated with this proposed development. Stromio Energy are responsible for arranging and advertising community consultation sessions and I encourage everyone to attend as many sessions as possible. Listen to what is said, critically question the Stromilo staff on the project and develop an informed opinion. I understand that sessions in Burraga, Oberon and O'Connell are planned for the near future with information available on the Pines Windfarm website. On Thursday 11 July at 5.00 pm the Oberon RSL Sub Branch is holding a sunset service to commemorate those members of the Australian Defence Force who fought and died during the various conflicts in the Middle East and Afghanistan between 2001 and 2021. The general public and particularly veterans of those conflicts and their families are warmly invited to attend. Work on the grant funded extension to our Gym is proceeding very quickly.
