P Acting Mayor's Column Mayor Mark Kellam is recuperating from a medical procedure this month. Whilst Mark recovers, I am the Acting Mayor. We wish Mark a full and speedy recovery. On an exciting note, Oberon's Chloe Swannel sang the national anthem at the Sunday session of the Bathurst 500. She was the essence of professionalism and a magnificentambassador for the music profession within the Oberon community. Well done Chloe This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Oberon Rodeo and the event was an outstanding success. Entries were well up on previous years. I am sure this is in part due to the highly successful Performance Academy hosted by the Oberon Rodeo Association in January this year. Congratulations to the organisers for such a fantastic day Staff at the Visitor Information Centre have been busy putting the final touches on plans for the Oberon Field to Forest Festival. The festival will run from 6-27 April 2024 and offers an opportunity for local producers to showcase food, wine, foraging and more in the Oberon region. The first event is the Sip, Savour and Slice at RedGround Australia on 6 April and tickets for this event are selling quickly. Other activities include a Forest Talk on 13 April and Mushroom Foraging Workshops. The festival will culminate with the Producers Dinner at the Malachi Gilmore Hall on 20 April 2024. The Oberon Garden Club will host an Autumn Open Garden event on the weekend of 13-14 April Details for all events can be found at www.visitoberon.com/events Council has been undertaking community consultation in relation to the current Town Improvement Levy during December, January and February. The public exhibition period is nearing closure and I urge members of the community to review the discussion paper and presentation. Please visit the website https://www.oberon.nsw.gov.au/Counci/Rating-Structure-Review-Town- Improvement-Levy. An online survey is also available so please have your say as this is important for the future direction of Council in regard to the Town Improvement Levy. On a final note, it is with great sadness that we were advised of the passing of former Oberon Mayor Don Fitzpatrick last week. Don was a Councillor for eight years being elected in 2004 and serving as Mayor during 2011/12. On behalf of Oberon Council and the community we send our condolences to Leonie and Don's family at this time.
