Acting Mayor's Column March and April are anticipated to be months where significant decisions will be made by your Council. By the time residents will have read this article, Councillors will have considered the future of the Town Improvement Fund at the 19 March Ordinary Meeting. This decision takes into account the considerable Community Engagement by Council on the three options. Council will also have considered a Memorandum of Understanding with the Aboriginal community on establishing a Yarning circle at the Common. The NSW Government has issued expressions of interest for solar grants. Council will have made determinations whether to apply for solar panels for the Water Treatment plant to reduce operating costs and what other opportunities may exist for other council facilities that do not already have funded solar panel installation. In April it is anticipated that Council will be considering Tenders for construction of the new Sewerage Treatment Plant which will be one of the most expensive projects that Council will enter into and is of crucial importance to the future of Oberon. Councillors will, in considering the Tenders, have to ensure that any preferred tenderer's price can be accommodated within Oberon's budget for the Project together with ensuring that quality and schedule meet our requirements. Since Council took on the management of the Pool and Gym attendance has been increasing month on month so that there are now more users than under the previous management arrangement. Not only does this show that fitness and health are a major consideration for our residents but that the new management arrangements are appreciated and supported by users. O'Connell last weekend benefited from the efforts of six brave souls who collected rubbish from the roads around O'Connell and filled the back of their canopied ute with all the rubbish. Many thanks to the six volunteers. A reminder that Oberon Field to Forest Festival will run from 6-27 April 2024 and that details for all events can be found at www.visitoberon.com/events I take the opportunity to wish everyone a happy Easter break.
