Mayor's Column On Tuesday, the Council held the last ordinary meeting prior to the Council Election on 14 September. This was also the last meeting prior to entering what is called Caretaker Period from Friday 16 August to close of business on Friday 13 September The Caretaker Period restricts approval of some Development Applications during this period as well as prohibiting entering into contracts above a fixed amount or making substantial appointments of Senior staff. The general day to day running of Council is not affected and all the usual services will be available. The returning Officer for Oberon with the NSW Electoral Commission has advised us that it is unlikely that the polls will be declared before 3 October due to the deadline for postal votes arriving at the Electoral Commission. There will be a Council meeting in early October to swear in Councillors and elect a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor as well as deal with some necessary administrative processes. A reminder that Pre-Poll voting is available at the Oberon Community Centre from Saturday 7 September to Friday 13 September. Opening Hours are: Sat 7 Sept: 9:00am-6:00pm Sun 8 Sept: CLOSED Mon - Wed: 8:30am - 5:30pm * Thu: 8:30am - 600m Fri: 8:30am-6:00pm. A couple of interesting grant opportunities have progressed in the last few weeks. We have received notification that our application under the EV Destination Charging Grant program was successful. The program will allow the upgrade of the EV chargers at the Visitor Information Centre. The upgrade will include 2 x EV Box chargers and accompanying software that will allow credit card transactions on the terminall This will allow staff to set appropriate tariffs and recover costs for this service. You can expect to see the new trees being planted over the next couple of weeks. The trees are quite advanced, so it won't take long to see the improvements to the street scapes around town with over 200 new trees to be planted. Mayor Mark Kellam Waste Voucher 24-25 Correction Council is aware of a print house error on the reverse side of the 2024/2025 Annual Waste Vouchers. There is a $10 value stated on the voucher, which should not have been included All waste vouchers permit up to one ute load or standard 6x4 trailer of domestic waste. excluding mattresses, lounges and tyres. Due to the complexities and potential confusion associated with reissuing, Council has made the decision to continue utilising the cument vouchers and ask the community to disregard the monetary value stated. Council acknowledge there has been public commentary regarding this issue. Staff are working with the print house to investigate how this error occumed and rectification avenues available to Council.
