Acting Mayor's Column the Last Friday Oberon's International Women's Day dinner was held at the Oberon Library and Community Centre. The Guest speakers were two local identities: Dominica Koudrin of the Oberon Pharmacy and Eugenia Miroshnikoff, the author of the Matryoshka Doll Dominica discussed the Pharmacy's activities and the challenges of rural health moving forward. Eugenia talked about her mother's life in Russia following Russia's transition to communism after the 1917 revolution. The book describe travails of living and travelling in Russia and through several other countries until the family finally arrived in the west. There were 80 women and 3 men at the dinner which was a great success. Councillors Helen Hayden, Katie Graham and Lauren Trembath attended. A "Welcome to Oberon Function" will be held on 20 March 2024 from 3pm to 4.30pm for people who have moved to Oberon in the last two years. If you have recently moved to Oberon, please contact Council's Community Services Team on 63298100 or community@oberon.nsw.gov.au There have been a number of enquiries for an update on work on the O'Connell Recreation Ground. Contractors have recently been engaged to slash and spray the ground. Topsoil will then be spread over the ground with shaping and compacting of the cricket field to follow. Once shaped Council will seed the ground with grass seed in preparation for the first O'Connell verses Tarana Cricket match on the ground in the spring hopefully). This project has been funded from the NSW State Government and Council and will provide a great meeting/sporting precinct for O'Connell residents and visiting teams. A reminder that Oberon Field to Forest Festival will run from 6-27 April 2024 and offers an opportunity for local producers to showcase food, wine, foraging and more in the Oberon region. The first event is the Sip, Savour and Slice at RedGround Australia on 6 April and tickets for this event are selling quickly. Other activities include a Forest Talk on 13 April and Mushroom Foraging Workshops. The Festival will culminate with the Producers Dinner at the Malachi Gilmore Hall on 20 April 2024. The Oberon Garden Club will host an Autumn Open Garden event on the weekend of 13-14 April. Details for all events can be found at www.visitberon.com/events There has been a considerable amount of roadworks being undertaken in Oberon Council area by Council staff and contractors. This has included the substrata stabilisation and then heavy patching of the following roads: Mt David Road, Dog Rocks Road, Shooters Hill Road, Hazelgrove Road and Abercrombie Road. This has created some travel delays for many of us but will significantly improve the worst pothole and subsiding areas of these roads. There are currently works being undertaken at the southern entrance (Goulburn/Taralga side) at Black Springs to widen the pavement. Consultants will be expected to have experience in the preparation of Comprehensive Strategic Land Use Plans, a detailed knowledge of Strategic Planning processes and framework and have sound understanding of rural and regional strategic planning issues. Applicants will be n required to be registered on the E-tendering Portal www.eprocure.com.au to download the tender documents.
