Mayor's Column The Central West Forestry Hub (CWFH) is an organisation funded by the Federal Government to provide information to industry and Government for the purpose of expanding and improving the plantation forestry industry in Central West NSW. There are 10 other Forestry Hubs across the nation. The General Manager and lare part of the CWFH Committee. Amajor output of the organisation are research documents undertaken by various universities. Some readers may recall a paper a few years ago regarding the potential opportunities in reopening the Oberon Tarana rail line to support forestry operations. Recently, the CWFH released a paper on the economic effect of forestry in our LGA OBERON MORE THAN YOU IMAGINE OBERON COUNCIL Public Exhibition - Records and Information Management Policy At its 16 July 2024 Ordinary Meeting. Council resolved to place its draft Records and Information Management Policy on public exhibition for 28 days: 25 July 2004 to 22 August 2004 and submissions be invited to Council during that period. This is a public document available on the applications for funding under Section 256 of the Local Goverment Act 1993 and At its 16 July 2024 Ordinary Meeting. Oberon Council resolved to support the following CWFH website (CWFH.com.auj Some figures relating to the forestry contribution generated by the planting, growing. harvesting and processing of softwood trees and associated support activities (2021 2022 financial year Supports about 850 full time jobs in the Oberon LGA and contributes almost $190 million per year to our local economy, 36% of jobs in Oberon are forestry related, Forestry contributes $78m per year to household income in our LGA, and The average forestry related job pays about $450 per week more than other jobs in our LGA These figures, amongst lots of other figures in the document, provide a reasonable view of a major part of our economy and can be used to support Council planning activities and submissions to any number of State Government authorities. A current CWFH research project relates to the Duckmaloi Road and Jenolan Caves Road and how those roads can more effectively service the Forestry industry and in doing so improve the road for residents and other road users. So far, a lot of data has been collected and the analysis of that data has commenced. This study promises to be quite a powerful document to support our lobbying of the State Government for significant improvements to these two major roads. The Ordinary Council meeting next month will be held on 13 August rather than the usual 20 August Why? Because, on Friday 16 August the Council will enter a caretaker mode in preparation for the Council elections on 14 September. Once in caretaker mode no decisions involving a commitment of funds can be taken. There are a couple of routine items that may involve extra funding, so it was prudent to move the August meeting. Keep in mind the 15 August Community Services Expo at the Community Centre from 4.00pm to 7.00pm. There will be approximately 25 stallholders and approximately 70 representatives from community organisations in attendance so that residents and prospective residents can talk to service providers and make new connections within the community. There will be a BBQ and light refreshments provided.
