Mayor's Column The inaugural Community Services Expo was held last Thursday evening at the Community Centre and was a brilliant success with over 35 separate exhibitors filling up the auditorium The range of services represented was huge and included NDIS planners and providers, Relationships Australia, Oberon Fire and Rescue, Oberon USA, Oberon Garden Club, NBN, Hospital Auxiliary and Health Council and other health providers, Men's Shed, Columbia Aged Care, Oberon Business and Tourism Association and many other community service organisations. There was a solid stream of people visiting the Expo throughout the evening. The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Andrew McKibbin, presented certificates to the recipients of Section 356 Donations. These donations are provided to community organisations, schools, community led events and occasionally individuals, to support activities that contribute to community wellbeing and cohesion. Generally, the donations are relatively small and over the last three financial years the Council has provided a total of around $240,000 to a very wide variety of organisations. My congratulations and thanks Councillor Katie Graham who is the chair of the Community Services Committee and the driving force behind this event; Mat Webb, the Corporate Services Director and Victoria Bewley from the Visitor Information Centre who did all the really hard work of locating and organising all the exhibitors. This Sunday, there will be a special event on at the Oberon Fire and Rescue Station. Peter Ryan is retiring from the service he loves after 60 years of service to our community. This is a sendoff worth being part of and his remarkable dedication deserves our recognition. Sunday morning, 10.00am will see a Procession starting outside of the old NAB building then down to the Fire and Resue Station on North St. See you there. The last printed version of the Oberon Review is the one you are reading. From now on only a digital format will be available. This is a sad but inevitable end to our local paper, as print media becomes less and less commercially viable. On the positive side, Peter Bowditch is developing Oberon Matters as a good source of local news and events. Oberon Matters is digital format only at the moment. However, Peter is developing a printed version for local distribution. I wish him all the best with his new enterprise. Finally, the Oberon Business and Tourism Association is hosting a Meet the Candidates evening at the RSL on Thursday 29 August at 7.00pm. This is an opportunity to hear what candidates want to achieve and there will be an opportunity to ask the candidates. Mayor Mark Kellam Waste Voucher 24-25 Correction Council is aware of a print house error on the reverse side of the 2024/2025 Annual Waste Vouchers. There is a $10 value stated on the voucher, which should not have been included. All waste vouchers permit up to one ute load or standard 6x4 trailer of domestic waste. excluding mattresses, lounges and tyres. Due to the complexities and potential confusion associated with reissuing, Council has made the decision to continue utilising the cument vouchers and ask the community to disregard the monetary value stated. Council acknowledge there has been public commentary regarding this issue. Staff are working with the print house to investigate how this error occumed and rectification avenues available to Council.
