The Great Race certainly lived up to expectations with Shane van Gisbergen and Richie Stanaway storming home to Shane's second straight win and third Bathurst 1000 title in their Chevy Camaro. A huge thank you to all of the Bathurst Regional Council staff and all of the volunteers who worked so hard to make the 60th Bathurst 1000 so memorable! In tribute to the legendary old timers who made the Great Race what it is today, I took Big Red, my 1962 XK Falcon ute to the Bathurst 1000. Big Red feit right at home! In Parliament recently, I asked the Prime Minister if he would visit our disaster-hit region again and also bring the Premier with him. PM'S VISIT NEEDS TO BE BACKED BY ACTION The cold hard truth is that we have had nowhere near the same access to disaster funding that regions like the Northern Rivers of NSW have had. We don't begrudge anyone any support, we simply ask for the same fair and equitable treatment. BATHURSTO The previous NSW Liberals and Nationals Government had four and a half months to activate this funding but failed to do so. Campaigning for a NSW election was given priority over our local residents. The current NSW Government has similarly failed to deliver this vitally-needed support. A BRILLIANT BATHURST 1000! It was wonderful to see that the Rapid Relief Team in Bathurst recently received a $10,000 grant under the Federal Government's Stronger Communities Program. The team can always be relied upon when we need them most, providing crucial catering at emergencies like the Black Summer bushfires where they offered thousands of meals to our firefighters and emergency crews During the storm and flood disaster of November 2022, and at the Hill End fires, the Rapid Relief Team were there, lending a hand to communities in need. recently attended a moving service at All Saints Cathedral Bathurst to observe National Police Remembrance Day. It was a day to pause and remember the fallen officers who have served our communities with kindness, dedication and courage. BATHURST ELECTORATE OFFICE 107 George Street PO Box 54 Bathurst NSW 2795 We honoured and remembered all officers who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. NEW TRAILER TO SUPPORT DISASTER-HIT COMMUNITIES The grant has enabled the Rapid Relief Team to purchase their own emergency support trailer for the Bathurst region, so the group can offer valuable assistance to emergency services and fire crews as they protect the community. Your Country Your Voice it was great to have a chat about this new funding with Rapid Relief Team members Michael and Peter in Bathurst recently. I'm very pleased that the Prime Minister has agreed to visit and invite the Premier as well, and I again call upon equality in disaster funding without to be backed up by action. delay. Visits are important but they need to f Our residents should not be treated as second-class citizens. On a more positive note, during the recent visit to our area by the NSW Minister for Emergency Services, Jihad Dib, I asked the Minister whether he would re-assess the decision made by the previous NSW government not to deliver the $75,00 Special Disaster Grants to the Hill-End region. Thank you, Rapid Relief Team for the dedicated support you provide to communities across the Central West! "So stand behind this thin blue line and have faith, for you are in the shadow of my shield and protected by this sword It would appear that the issue is now being re-examined and reviewed, so fingers crossed for a positive result for the fire-hit Hill End district farmers. NATIONAL POLICE REMEMBRANCE DAY Thank you to the committed men and women of our region who personify service above self and are dedicated to keeping our communities safe. Being a police officer is difficult and dangerous work and we are extraordinarily grateful for all that you do.
