Andrew GEE MP INDEPENDENT FEDERAL Your Country Your Voice MEMBER FOR CALARE PINES WIND FARM UPDATE & FUTURE CONSULTATIONS recently attended the Black Springs Hall to find more about the proposed Pines Wind Farm and get some questions answered. Firstly, I had a discussion with a Stromio representative who explained the project to me and his company's involement I was very concerned to learn that rather than just consulting about turbines on Forestry Corporation land. Stromio has been actively Next, I spoke to a representative from Forestry, who told me that they sign off any proposed development before it is submitted for NSW Government development approval. So, it's not just Stromio and the developer who sign off on the plan. Forestry is an active player all the way through I asked how it came to be that Forestry had the power to build wind farms on its land. The reply was stunning It turns out that it was the NSW National Party in Government which put the legislation into the NSW Parliament- and which went through unanimously! You can't make this up! NATIONAL PARTY HYPOCRISY the laws that made it all happen in the first place It was the NSW National Party that passed the laws allowing Forestry to have turbines on its land. It was the NSW National Party that created Renewable Energy Zones across our state. It was the NSW National Party that then failed to introduce proper planning laws and regulations to adequately deal eded residents and the effects on prime Instead of hypocritically pretending to ride in on white horses. the National Party should be apologising for the local conflict and uncertainty they have created through their failure to do their jobs when they were in government. OBERON WIND FARM MEETING As I was leaving the hall I was approached by one of the leaders of the Oberon Against Wind Towers group who introduced himself and told me about the meeting that was to occur the following Thursday (27th of Junel. In the presence of my staff member, I told him very clearly that I would not be able to attend as Parliament was sitting and I would be in Canberra. This information was also told to other members of the group when I was speaking to Forestry earlier. Sadly, that information does not So, if you want to blame anyone for this, blame those who passed appear to have been conveyed to the meeting OBERON AREA WIND FARM CONSULTATION TUESDAY 9 JULY Because I was in Parliament when the public meeting was held, I will be holding an informal community consultation on the proposed area wind farms. The format will not be a public meeting/ forum, but rather an informal chat on wind farms or any other topic you'd like to raise. To ensure you get time to chat, please call my office on 6361 7138 to get a consultation slot. I hope to see you there! Tuesday July 9th From 2pm to 4pm, When: Time: and then again from 6pm to 7.30pm Where: Oberon RSL A NEW ADDITION FOR THE OBERON TARANA HERITAGE RAILWAY It was terrific to catch up with Greg Bourne and Michael Clark at the Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway Inc recently! I got to see the group's newest arrival, the 3085 tank locomotive Now at Oberon under a five-year loan from Transport Heritage NSW, it will be restored as a static display for everyone to enjoy. Decommissioned in 1972 and exposed to the elements in Eveleigh and Goulburn, this 70-tonne beauty faced a challenging transport along the Great Western Highway in y in a 1-5am window, with two cranes needed to lift it onto the tracks. Huge congrats to grats to Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway and Transport Heritage NSW on this massive achievement - I can't wait to see the t back to life's ack M's also f o fantastic that the group recently received a very well deserved $1,000 Volunteer Grant from the Federal Government This is in addition to more than $1.5 million in support received from the previous federal government to restore the much-loved 24.3km-long tourist track 3085 STATEMENT ON THE PROPOSED NUCLEAR REACTOR AT Mt PIPER that a nuclear power plant will be based informed community discussion, and make up our mind and built at Mt Piper near Lithgow if they win the next election. INFORMATION NEEDED ASAP News reports of a press conference held by Peter Dutton and all This is exactly what Lithgow City Council has called for and also the state Member for Bathurst, Paul Toole who said, "the announcement lacks detail and has raised more questions than answers. He also asked "is it reality or is it fiction If National Party MPs who are insiders are not on-board with David Littleproud in Sydney was the first that local residents how canary information and community leaders had heard of the plan Folks in L in Lithgow-area communities were really surprised by this. That's because there's been no consultation with the local community, no details provided about the project, and no opportunity offered for residents to ask questions about what this mean for them No matter where you stand on this issue, if someone proposed to put a nuclear reactor in your backyard, you'd probably have a few questions too. NOBODY CONSULTING THE COMMUNITY, SO I AM That's why in the past fortnight I have held two informal community consultations at both Lithgow and Portland - with a third in the works. The statement from the Deputy Leader of the Nationals Perin Davey that "if a community is absolutely adamant Jagainst a reactor then we will not proceed" which was then contradicted by David Littleproud who said "no she's not correct" has only added to confusion. QUESTIONS RAISED BY THE COMMUNITY: The questions that local residents are asking me include: how much it will cost; when will it be built; what happens to real estate prices; whether it's safe; where the radioactive waste will be stored; how many jobs it will bring what happens in an accident, natural disaster or terrorist attack; and how much water it will use. Nationals Leader David Littleproud really needs to get to They've been good opportunities for residents to have a chat the Lithgow area, explain his policy and answer legitimate with me about their thoughts on the topic. While there is some strong division between those supporting a reactor and those opposing it, what I've found is that there are a whole lot of people who want more information and details in order to make up their minds. And that's fair enough The community can't be expected to make an informed choice on this issue if there's no information, consultation or facts MY POSITION ON NUCLEAR POWER As I've stated many times in statements issued to all local media outlets, in columns published in newspapers across our region, and in statements on my Facebook and Instagram pages, I am not against nuclear power and never have been. I have had the benefit of nuclear medicine scans, and continue to support the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine program Getting the details and questions answered on a nuclear community questions. It's not too much to ask.
