Andrew GEE MP INDEPENDENT FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CALARE RUNS ON THE BOARD FOR OBERON $2 billion for the upgrade of the Great Western Highway $4.8 million for Oberon's new Sports and Community complex $4.8 million for upgrades to Campbell's River Road $3.95 million for upgrades to Arkstone Rd and Burraga Rd $1.9 million to support Central West forestry plantations $1.65 million to extend the Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway $852,010 to expand Oberon Children's Centre $762,000 for replacement of Abercrombie River bridge $711,000 for the O'Connell Rec Ground and surrounds $364,000 for new gym equipment at The Y fitness centre $217,866 for the Oberon District Museum 47 new mobile phone towers and base stations including Burraga and Black Springs $100,000 for new shades sails at Black Springs playground and the Common $50,000 for the Rotary Lookout at Falls Hill $50,000 for upgrades to the watering system and solar panels at Oberon Golf Club BLACK SPRINGS MOBILE PHONE TOWER UPDATE The Black Springs Mobile Phone tower story This lack of NSW Government co-operation set the continues, and I want to give the community an project back and the hunt then continued for a new update on where we are at site. However all other attempts to find a further site felt through Firstly the background During the term of the last federal government. I was able to help secure funding for a small cell mobile phone tower at Back Springs. There have been suggestions that this was some type of election promise, but this is not true. I did however work with the community to try and secure a government subsidised tower and the good news is that we succeeded This is where things got frustrating. The best site for the tower is at the rubbish tp on Dog Rocks Road. This is on NSW Government Crown Land at Black Springs Telstra approached the then NSW Liberals and Nationals Government to place the tower on that site. It should have been straightforward, and you would think that given the previous NSW Government had made an election commitment in 2019 to make the entire state mobile blackspot free, they would be bending over backwards to host the tower and get local residents mobile coverage Sadly the NSW Government demanded exorbitant rent from Telstra which made the whole project unviable. Telstra was just about to ut to walk away because it was all too hard when I intervened by calling a community meeting attended by the Mayor of Oberon. I also got an extension of time for the project from the Australian Government so that the funding would not be taken away Negotiations with other suitable land holders have since also fallen through over the rental issue. I have now gone back to the NSW Government to see if they can offer a more reasonable rent The project has stalled for no other reason than the attitude of the state government t's great to see works progressing at the O'Connell Recreation Ground I know Mayor Kellam has been very supportive of our efforts to get this tower moving it's great to see a local councillor being constructive on such an important local issue For many years, local residents in O'Connell have been eager to see a top notch rec ground constructed in their community. To have a kick around a solid soccer field, practice hitting sixers on a decent cricket pitch, or drill serves on a tennis court, local sport-lovers have been forced to travel to neighbouring towns or cities. I would encourage all councillors to lobby the new NSW Government for a more reasonable rent or actually help locate a new site, including ascertaining whether there is any council land that can host the small cell tower such as near the cemetery. I will keep the community updated on the progress. That's why it's 's very exciting to see works at the rec ground moving forward! With the anniversary of the storm and flood disasters that hit our region fast approaching, the fight for equality in disaster support and assistance continues. Supported by $711.000 in funding from the previous Federal Government, the community won't have to wait long to enjoy a new hall, multi-purpose tennis courts, improvements to the shelter and grandstand, and fencing and footpaths across the site. It's hard to believe that almost 12 months on this fight persists. This joint State/Federal disaster assistance needs to be activated by the NSW Government. O'Connell is also becoming a popular stopping point for visitors exploring the Central West. The addition of the Rec Ground will allow the village to host bigger sporting events and functions. encouraging even more people to travel to the area. This is all about bringing the community together, now and for many generations to come.
